WHELAHAN Michael Joseph 1854-1926
Michael Joseph Whelahan was born in Kinglass in Ireland c 1854. Like so many others the family came over c 1849 during the great Potato Famine.
Michael’s father Patrick had for a while worked in Lanarkshire in the Iron Mills. He returned home to Ireland and then returned to Edinburgh with his wife Bridget McDonald and family. The couple had been married on 6th October 1845 in County Rosscommon in Ireland.

- Son Patrick John Whelahan 1882-1959. He married Margaret McGinness. They moved to an address nearby at 49 Nicolson Street West. Their son Michael Joseph Whelahan was lost at Sea WW2 and their is a memorial with his name is St. Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh.
- Daughter Margharita Whelahan 1885-1963 married James Devlin. They had a large family who mainly remained around Edinburgh
- Daughter Maria Whelahan 1887-1968. She never married.
- Son Father Michael Whelahan 1889-1949. He died in Lourdes . Notes for MICHAEL WHELAHAN 1889-1949 Educated Blairs 1905-07; Valladoid 1907-16. Ordained Edinburgh 1917.
