STANTON Aughaval Cemetery Search

We visited the Aughagower Cemetery in 2010 on the occasion of the 60th birthday of Denis Madigan Stanton when we were in search of his family roots

Aughaval is in Westport, County Mayo

Location of Augoghower Cemetery.

We know that Andrew Stanton married Peggy Grady in the Catholic St. Mary’s Church in the centre of Westport.   Many of Westport’s residents were buried in this old Cemetry.   Thanks to the IRISH GRAVEYARD ASSOCIATIONhttp://irishgraveyards.ie/plot.php?plotno=129A&yardid=119&section=OldLeft  we have located many Stauntons.  In particular we were searching for Walter Stanton who was born circa 1780/90 and who is the forefather of our branch of the Stanton family not only here in Scotland but also who are now scattered throughout the world.

If any of the Staunton or Stanton family from Westport can help us in our quest please contact us by leaving a comment below.

Hubert Staunton was born in 1806. Could he have been related to our Walter born circa 1790.   The Cemetery records do not give a place of residence for this Walter.

This Walter Staunton died in 1937

Thomas Staunton was born in 1856 just after the great potato famine.   Was he related to our Andrew born 1847?   This family lived in Westport.

Mick Staunton

Patrick Staunton

Jack Staunton born 1917   Their place of residence was Westport.

 Michael Staunton born 1865

In Ballinrobe Cemetery we also find these Staunton family members

John Staunton was born in 1832

John and his wife Winifred Staunton

In Ballintober Cemetery, Mayo  we find

Hello, I don’t know if you can help me or not. I live in England and want to visit the grave of Joseph Maher 29/12/1933 – 17/07/1998 in Aughavale cemetery. I cannot find the location of the grave or a map of the cemetery. If you please help or point me n the write direction, I would really appreciate it.

Ideally I would like a map emailed to me showing the location of the grave.

    Thank you,

    Kevin Greenhill
